Hotel Le Hameau Albert 1er
in Chamonix, France

Deep in history this hotel is still family run with the highest standards of service and cuisine.

In 1903, Joseph Carrier built a hotel, which he baptized La Pension du Chemin de fer (The railway Hotel) François-Joseph, Joseph's son, renamed the hotel 'Albert 1er et de Milan'

One generation later, Marcel and Andrée took over the reins of the hotel. Marcel succeeded his mother, Clothilde, in the kitchen and obtained his first star in the Michelin Guide in 1967.In 1979, Pierre took over in the kitchen. In 1997, with Martine, they built three connecting farmhouses out of old wood, consisting of twelve rooms, a fitness centre with swimming pool and spa, and La Maison Carrier, a traditional restaurant. A real hamlet....

This same year, Pierre Maillet joined the Albert 1er kitchen as Commis chef.

In 1999, Pierre Carrier obtained his second star in the Michelin Guide and the Hameau Albert 1er became part of the prestigious Relais et Chateaux chain. Pierre Carrier's daughter, Perrine went on to marry Pierre Maillet, who worked his way up to becoming head chef of the Albert 1er.

Today the Hameau Albert 1er is run as a solid three-way family team. Perrine is the smiling host, Pierre Maillet is head chef of the 2-starred Michelin restaurant and Pierre Carrier looks after the general running of the establishment.

The Quartz Bar, next door to the gastronomic restaurant Albert 1er, offers a chic place for a glass of wine, a cocktail or a cup of tea...Providing a live music programme of jazz, classical and international music.

The Albert 1er restaurant with its two Mitchelin stars French cuisine in Chamonix, with a subtle hint of modernity, influenced by the Mont Blanc and Italian Piedmont regions, headed by head chef, Pierre Maillet.

Respecting the traditional cuisine and mountain architecture, La Maison Carrier welcomes you to the farmhouse, setting the scene of a bygone era. Stéphane Gassot, chef of La Maison Carrier proposes a delightfully tasty 'montagnarde' cuisine, based around popular recipes of our regions. In summer, the terrace adds yet another pleasure to 'eating out' with a superb view of Mont Blanc.

The Albert 1er rooms in this main building are contemporary with our local heritage expressed through antique furniture and carefully chosen artwork. The other rooms are classic and comfortable with alpine ambiance.

The La Ferme Rooms respect the architecture of old, alpine farms, ancient wood dominates and contemporary designer furnishings complement the decor of these rooms.
