Chalet Avalon in Les Gets, the owners obsessed over every detail. Working with Devos Interiors, a high end interior design studio based in Schilde in Belgium, creating a seamless and elegant home. For us, it’s a playful mix of both feminine and masculine touches and this balance makes it a really fun chalet to spend time in.
The main living room has a softer feminine touch, with light coloured sofas, curving lines and layers of natural fabric finishes. It’s peaceful and refined, a very classy space. The main living level is open plan but well zoned around the central fireplace to create four distinct areas, the kitchen, dining room, primary lounge and a TV snug. All of this is tied together with a Bocci light installation featuring over 40 individual globes – a real statement piece.
The kitchen is as well appointed as you would expect in a chalet of this quality – all the appliances are of a high standard so if you do choose to self cater you’ll enjoy cooking here. A private chef would also be at home in this space and that would be a truly indulgent way to enjoy time in this property. Another nice feature is that you have both indoor and outdoor dining options on this level – with a large custom oak table set on the balcony also being easily accessible when the weather allows. Wherever you sit you’ll be able to enjoy incredible views over the village of Les Gets, the slopes of both Chavannes and Mont Cherry, and the valley beyond. The aspect is westerly which is ideal for evening sunlight and magical Alpine sunsets.
Downstairs the chalet transitions to its more masculine influences, especially in the bar and cinema which is a truly show stopping space. Dark colours play wonderfully with a deep amber warmth created through the backlighting of natural marbles used on both the countertop and behind the bar. This is complemented further by the fireplace, it’s a highly emotive space. The cinema zone is wonderfully considered, with several tiers of seating, a large projector and incorporated surround sound, but this would also be a special place to simply spend time enjoying a drink and catch up with family, friends or colleagues. There are vibes of a members club in here, but a very private and exclusive one just for you and your guests, a very special space to escape the stresses of life and retreat.
Some of the design cues from the bar are echoed in the spa area where again, backlit natural stone creates a warm and inviting drama for the hamman and sauna. The real star of the spa facilities is outside though where a custom swim spa is sunken into the deck. The pool is 6m long but in any case this isn’t about early morning lengths… it’s about unwinding and relaxing with the most incredible views… whether that’s with warmth and steam rising in the winter months, or as a refreshing way to cool off in the heat of the summer.
In total there are 6 bedrooms allowing the chalet to sleep up to 12 people. The master suite, as you would expect, is an indulgent affair. Set on the first floor it enjoys the best of the views and also features a luxurious en-suite. Next to this there is a second versatile suite which can either be accessed from the main chalet as a guest bedroom, or by an independent entrance. The layout has been made in this way for guests travelling with staff, allowing them to integrate with your family in a discreet and convenient manner, whilst also giving them their own space and privacy when they are not working. There are a further two regular rooms on the lower ground level, as well as two bunk rooms which are suitable for use by both children or adults meaning the chalet will suit a wide range of groups. Five of the six rooms are en-suite, with only the smaller of the bunk rooms on the top floor sharing facilities with one of the two main suites.
Automated lighting and concealed technology complement the finish of the property. This is perhaps best epitomised by the concealed mirror televisions used throughout the property. When not in use these simply blend into the background, allowing the interior design to shine, but should you wish to catch up on news, sport, or your favourite show, there are plenty to choose from.
The owners of chalet Avalon are in the brewing trade themselves, so it is only fitting that they decided the property needed a “proper bar”. Conveniently positioned adjacent to the cinema, this might just be the perfect place to relax and recap on the day’s events.
